# Project examples on your website: how to present your work

Reading time: about 5 minutes for the main text. Use templates and details as needed.

[Full version with templates, calculations and further checks](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/)

A good project photo often leaves visitors wondering which work your business carried out. A useful project example explains the task and your own contribution. It also shows which change you can actually substantiate. To begin, one completed job you have documented well is enough. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Use it to prepare a short project card for your website. Gather the confirmed details of the job and choose suitable photos whose use has been cleared. The bathroom example shows how to turn this into a clear description.

**Your plan for this guide**

- [Describe the work through a specific example](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#core-projektkarte-schreiben)

- [Give genuine photos clear context](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#core-fotos-beschriften)

- [Clear photos and testimonials for use before publishing](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#core-veroeffentlichung-klaeren)

- [Review the card from a potential customer's perspective](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#core-vorschau-pruefen)

## Choose a job you can substantiate

Choose work that fits the services you offer today. A small job can work well if you can describe your part clearly. A larger renovation will need more detailed records. If evidence is missing or image rights are unresolved, keep the project internal for now. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

A typical job helps a potential customer relate it to their own plans. Choose a case that answers a question they can understand. A small selection is enough to start with; almost identical cards do little to explain your services more clearly. If important aspects can only be explained using confidential details, the case is not yet suitable for the website. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

First record what was agreed and what your business carried out. Keep work by other businesses separate. Trades are the different specialist areas of work, such as tiling or electrical installation. An overall photo may show the combined results of several trades. The text must make clear which part is yours. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

For a straightforward job, a short card in the project gallery is often enough. A dedicated project page gives you more room when conditions or decisions need explaining. The [detailed comparison of a card and a project page](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/#darstellung) helps you choose. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

This extract from the comparison assesses both formats against the same reader tasks: [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Reader's task Gallery with short cards Dedicated project page
Choose a relevant project A photo, project type and brief account of your contribution give a quick overview You can explain the starting point and the project's relevance in more detail
Understand the approach and limitations A small card leaves little room for this Conditions and decisions have their own sections
Understand what the photos show Each image needs clear context and an indication of the project stage Images can sit directly beside the relevant explanation

The additional project page complements the gallery. With only a few projects, clear labels in the gallery are enough; a filter by service can organise a larger collection later. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

## Describe the work through a specific example

Start with the situation before the work. Then describe your scope of work, its limits and the confirmed change. Praise such as “top quality” leaves these questions unanswered. Include dimensions or dates only when your records confirm them. Invoices and full handover records stay internal as supporting evidence. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Also record internally what supports each statement about the result. Documented work, a suitable measurement or a confirmed handover can provide this basis. Knowing only the agreed goal does not confirm what was actually completed. Your business must then establish which evidence supports the statement. The public description needs the outcome of this check; confidential original records stay internal. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Describing a “level-access shower” does not establish that the whole bathroom is accessible. Other requirements apply, including space to move around and ease of use. [[1]](https://www.oesterreich.gv.at/de/themen/bauen_und_wohnen/bauen/1/Seite.1270100) When gathering project details, keep these properties separate from what a photo alone can show. Include only confirmed statements in the public text. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Give the card a title that names the type of project. Add a broad region only to the extent approved, and a completion year only if you have evidence for it. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

The following example is entirely fictional, including its result. It does not relate to a real job and contains neither a project photo nor a genuine customer quote. [[a]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-beispiele)

**Fictional project card: a shower in place of a bath.** The plumbing business checked the connections, removed the bath and fitted the agreed shower in its place. The existing washbasin is retained. It and the existing room layout limited the design. Another business handles the tiling; any subsequent work by other trades is described separately. Electrical installation and work outside the agreed area are not part of the job. No project photo or customer quote is available for this example. [[a]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-beispiele)

The card also says what is retained. In the example, the washbasin limits the design and explains the starting point. Identifying the different trades prevents the entire visible change from being attributed to the plumbing business. On a real card, the sequence described would also need to match the records. The agreed goal remains the starting point; adding goals afterwards would misrepresent the job. [[a]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-beispiele) [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

The [full project template](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/#projektvorlage) also records the basis for your statement about the result and the internal publication status. The [completed example with all its conditions](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/#muster) shows how the card above was developed. Apply the structure to your own documented work; the fictional details cannot serve as a project example for your business. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

[](https://brandhoop.at/ratgeber-materialien/A11/assets/projektseite-muster.png)Figure: a page model to fill with actual project details. The photo area contains no image of a completed job.

## Give genuine photos clear context

Choose photos that explain something about your work. Before-and-after photos must show the same project and the area described. Similar viewpoints make comparison easier. Name the stage in the caption so a photo of work in progress does not look like the finished result. Editing must not misrepresent the work shown. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

The caption explains how the photo relates to the project story, including any visible work by other businesses. Place the photo near the relevant explanation. Google takes captions and surrounding text into account when interpreting images. [[5]](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/google-images?hl=de)

Alt text is a text alternative for people who cannot see the image. For an informative project photo, it conveys the relevant visual information; the level of detail depends on the image's purpose and the accompanying text. [[6]](https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/images/informative/) Do not overload it with search terms. [[5]](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/google-images?hl=de)

A fictional caption might read “After: shower with a glass screen in place of the bath”. The corresponding sample alt text would be “Shower with a glass screen beside a washbasin”. Both descriptions are suitable only if a genuine photo, cleared for use, shows exactly this content. No photo is available for the example. [[a]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-beispiele)

You can use this exact extract from the photo template to prepare your content. It covers the description; the full template also includes a rights check, among other points. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Field Entry for each photo
Subject and stage [Name the visible area and stage: before, work in progress or completed.]
Caption [Describe the visible change and project stage in one clear sentence.]
Alt text [Briefly describe what is actually visible in the image; do not add unsupported claims about quality or location.]

The [photo template for each individual image](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/#fotovorlage) also records its origin and rights. Stock photos or images generated with artificial intelligence do not substantiate a completed job. That is why the page model above uses an explicitly labelled placeholder. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

## Clear photos and testimonials for use before publishing

The customer's approval and the photographer's usage rights address different questions. For photos taken by someone else, permission must cover use on your website. A photo credit alone is not enough. Also clarify which edits are permitted and how the photographer must be credited. [[9]](https://www.wko.at/internetrecht/urheberrecht-website-unternehmen)

Look closely at your own photos too: reflections or documents in the background may reveal private details. For a project in a private home, it helps to agree on the exact text and selected images. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Check the text and images together for private details. People can also become identifiable through a combination of individual pieces of information. [[2]](https://dsb.gv.at/rechte-pflichten/was-ist-datenschutz) For photos of people used in advertising, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) requires permission from the person shown. Processing personal data also requires an appropriate lawful basis. [[11]](https://www.wko.at/dsgvo4kmu/datenschutz-fotos-veranstaltungen-werbung) The [detailed guidance on publication rights](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/#rechte) explains the differences.

A customer quote is an optional addition. Use only words the customer actually said, with website use cleared, including how their name appears. Any shortening must preserve the meaning. Without a suitable testimonial, leave the card without a quote. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen) You cannot automatically copy a public review, together with a name or photo, onto your website. [[8]](https://www.wko.at/dsgvo4kmu/rechtmaessigkeit-dsgvo) Read more under [using genuine testimonials](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/full/#kundenstimme).

## Review the card from a potential customer's perspective

Open the preview on a phone and ask someone who does not know the job to read it. They should be able to explain what your business carried out and where the job's scope ended. Check statements about the result against your internal evidence. If a statement remains unresolved, do not publish it yet. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Record internally who checked the publication and which version of the text and selection of images they reviewed. Include the review date and the basis on which you may publish the content. Keep these administrative details within the business. They help you identify what was approved if you want to use a different version of an image later. [[b]](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/project-examples-on-your-website/#quellenhinweis-empfehlungen)

Link the project example to the relevant service page and an existing way to get in touch. The link text should clearly name the destination, as Google also recommends. [[3]](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/links-crawlable?hl=de) And check that these links work on a phone. The card can go on the website once the text and selected images have been checked and publication has been cleared. The [guide to websites for trades businesses](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/website-for-trades-businesses/) explains how it fits into the rest of the site. Sources and context (11 sources)

- [ÖNORMEN für barrierefreies Bauen](https://www.oesterreich.gv.at/de/themen/bauen_und_wohnen/bauen/1/Seite.1270100) — oesterreich.gv.at; Bundesministerium für Arbeit, Soziales, Gesundheit, Pflege und Konsumentenschutz / Austrian Standards Institute

The official overview lists space to move around, ease of use and other requirements. It supports the limited conclusion that a single feature, such as a level-access shower, does not confirm that the whole bathroom is accessible. It does not assess a specific bathroom, reproduce paid standards or make a statement about any particular Austrian province's building regulations. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Was ist Datenschutz?](https://dsb.gv.at/rechte-pflichten/was-ist-datenschutz) — Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde

Supports the definition relating to identified or identifiable natural persons and the need for a lawful basis. The examples combining a project photo, name and address apply this definition. This does not determine whether a specific image actually relates to an identifiable person. The point about photos showing only objects concerns consent under data protection law, not other rights relating to the image or its subject. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [SEO-Link-Best-Practices für Google](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/links-crawlable?hl=de) — Google Search Central

Supports the recommendation for descriptive, concise link text that fits its destination. Linking a service page, project example and contact option is an editorial suggestion for the site structure. It does not promise rankings or enquiries. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Photos as Web Content](https://www.nngroup.com/articles/photos-as-web-content/) — Nielsen Norman Group

NN/G reports from its own eye-tracking studies that people paid attention to images relevant to their task and often ignored purely decorative ones. The public research summary was read, rather than the full methodology report. This is not a measured effect for Austrian trades project examples or evidence of additional jobs won. The advice on choosing project photos is an editorial recommendation. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Best Practices für die Suchmaschinenoptimierung für Bilder](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/google-images?hl=de) — Google Search Central

Supports the statements that Google considers captions and page text, recommends placing images near relevant text, and calls for helpful, informative alt text rather than keyword stuffing. It does not demonstrate a specific ranking change, establish image rights or show how a project page affects jobs won. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Informative Images](https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/images/informative/) — W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)

Explains the purpose of text alternatives for informative images and how they depend on the image's purpose and adjacent text. Supports the guidance for a project photo that conveys important information. It does not require every decorative image to be described literally or provide a full assessment of a website's accessibility compliance. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Einwilligung als Basis zur Verarbeitung personenbezogener Daten](https://www.wko.at/dsgvo4kmu/einwilligung-verarbeitung-personenbezogener-daten) — Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (WKO), DSGVO4KMU

Supports the requirements for freely given, informed, active consent for a specific purpose; possible written, electronic or oral forms; evidence; and withdrawal, followed by ending processing for that purpose. Applies to consent under data protection law; it does not replace a review of photo usage agreements, protection of a person's image or other lawful bases. Written documentation is recommended as practical advice, not a general requirement as to form. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Rechtmäßigkeit im Sinne der DSGVO](https://www.wko.at/dsgvo4kmu/rechtmaessigkeit-dsgvo) — Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (WKO), DSGVO4KMU

Supports the dependence of the lawful basis on the purpose and circumstances, and the continuing need for legal permission when data is public. Reusing a review on another website and the comparison with a renovation contract apply these principles. It does not determine a lawful basis for a specific business or grant a licence for other people's review text or profile pictures. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Urheberrecht und Website eines Unternehmens](https://www.wko.at/internetrecht/urheberrecht-website-unternehmen) — Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (WKO)

Supports the need for usage rights for other people's photographs, rights relating to image content and separate questions of personality rights and data protection, as well as clarification of online use and photographer credits. A source credit does not replace permission to use an image. The precise extent of permitted editing follows from the applicable right or contract, not this general checklist. Client approval does not provide blanket permission to publish. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [Urheberrechtsgesetz § 78 – Bildnisschutz](https://www.ris.bka.gv.at/NormDokument.wxe?Abfrage=Bundesnormen&Gesetzesnummer=10001848&Paragraf=78) — Rechtsinformationssystem des Bundes (RIS), Bundeskanzleramt der Republik Österreich

Section 78(1) protects legitimate interests when images of people are publicly distributed. The article's summary is limited to this rule. The need for permission for advertising is also supported by the WKO; section 78 alone is not used to infer a general consent requirement for every photo of an object. Checked: 2026-10-16.

- [DSGVO: Fotos und Videos bei Veranstaltungen und für Werbung](https://www.wko.at/dsgvo4kmu/datenschutz-fotos-veranstaltungen-werbung) — Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (WKO), DSGVO4KMU

Uses the separate section on advertising: a lawful basis for photos containing personal data and additional permission under the protection of a person's image. The special rules or balancing of interests for event documentation are not applied to trades projects in private homes. Consent under data protection law and other permission or usage agreements remain separate concepts. Checked: 2026-10-16.
