# Website costs for trades: comparing prices and proposals

Website costs for trades businesses vary with scope: verified Austrian providers quote from 1,500 euros one-off or 99 euros per month. These are individual offers, not a general price range. Compare creation, ongoing fees, your own work and possible switching costs over the same period.

## Key points

- Text, images and later changes can account for a substantial part of the work. Have their scope described in the proposal.

- Calculate creation, domain, hosting and management together for 12 and 36 months. Count services already included only once.

- Before commissioning, clarify who will help after launch and which content and access you receive if you switch providers.

## What does a trades business website cost in Austria?

The price examples below show project prices starting at 1,500 euros and a subscription at 99 euros per month. They cover different services. A simple service overview with a contact form takes less work than a website with many project examples, several languages or a software integration. There is no fixed price for every trades business.

Provider and source Published amount Scope included or context
[Webgaudi](https://webgaudi.at/website-erstellen-lassen-kosten/) From 1,500 euros; ongoing package from 30 euros per month Entry offer with design, text and technical SEO optimisation. Clarify the specific page scope in the proposal.
[CRAFFT](https://www.crafft.at/) 99 euros per month, no setup fee, cancellable monthly According to the provider, includes hosting, maintenance and one change per month. Clarify the limits of a change and handover on cancellation.
[WeDoDesign](https://wedodesign.at/blog/website-erstellen-kosten) 2,000 to 8,000 euros for creation The provider’s guideline for local businesses; not a binding quote for your project.

Prices checked on 18 October 2026. These are examples from individual providers, not independent market statistics or BrandHoop prices. The selection is not a ranking or recommendation. A “from” price applies to a particular starting offer; additional work changes the calculation.

Also ask for confirmation of whether amounts are net or gross. A fair comparison needs the same VAT basis, comparable scope and the respective contract terms.

## Which cost factors determine web design prices?

A bathroom business needs a professional website where prospective customers can understand the scope of work, service area and site-visit process. This determines the page plan. Page size and number affect the work; research, design and coordination for the website project are added to that.

### Text and images

“Text included” can mean that the provider adds finished text you supply. It can also cover a detailed conversation about your work, writing and revisions. In the second case, your work is more likely to be limited to professional information and approvals. Our guide to [content for a trades business website](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/website-for-trades-businesses/) shows which information matters.

For images, selection, editing and usage rights are part of the work. A photo shoot is calculated differently from existing building-site photos. Your own projects help customers judge your work; stock photos should not appear to be examples of your business’s completed projects.

### Design and functions

An adapted template needs different design work from an individual website design. Also clarify whether a logo, colours and fonts already exist or a corporate design is part of the commission.

A contact form, appointment booking and online shop fulfil different purposes. For complete bathroom renovations, a site-visit enquiry with a callback option may be enough. Additional functions and software integrations need setup, testing and possibly ongoing licences.

Responsive design means that the website is also usable on mobile. This includes an actual test: is the text readable, are the phone number and form accessible, and do messages arrive? This check should be part of the agreed implementation.

### What comes first with a limited budget?

Start with clearly explained services, examples of your own work and a working contact method. More project examples or pages can follow later if the structure allows expansion. Ask for separate proposals for the initial scope and later wishes.

Decide whether you need a compact website or several service pages before comparing prices. The guide to [a landing page or website](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/landingpage-oder-website/) helps with this decision. Budget for additional location pages only where they answer distinct, accurate questions about your service area.

A fictional proposal comparison shows the difference: two providers plan five pages for a bathroom business. One expects finished text and sorted images. The other writes after a detailed conversation and prepares the project images. The prices become comparable only when this work is accounted for on both sides.

## Commissioning a website: builder, freelancer or agency?

A website builder can fit if someone in the business has time for design, content and maintenance. Ready-made elements, often using drag and drop, make the work easier without programming. This can be enough for a simple webpage or portfolio website. Check whether the plan includes your own domain, forms and the functions you need. Your time commitment belongs in the decision.

Coding it yourself can save external costs but requires technical knowledge and your own working time. If you want someone to create the website, describe which work you want to hand over and what your business will do itself.

With a freelancer, clarify which tasks they handle, who covers for them and how later changes work. A web design agency can coordinate concept, text, design and technology. The agreed scope of work determines how much actually remains with you.

The type of provider does not tell you whether text, support or individual design is included. Ask a builder service, freelancer and agency to price the same page plan. Also record the hours you expect to spend on content, coordination and maintenance; that time is unavailable for other work in your business.

[WeDoDesign](https://wedodesign.at/blog/website-erstellen-kosten) also lists builders at 0 to 50 euros per month and larger agency projects at 8,000 to 30,000 euros one-off. These too are one provider’s guidelines for different project sizes.

Ask for relevant examples of the provider’s work. Can visitors quickly find services, service area and contact details? Ask which parts the provider implemented and who your contact person will be. This lets you assess experience and communication before commissioning.

If your team will later add projects itself, ask to see that process. A content management system such as WordPress allows pages and posts to be edited. Setup, training and technical maintenance must then be in the proposal. For infrequent changes, a managed website may be enough.

## Which ongoing website costs are added?

The domain is the internet address; hosting is your website’s technical environment. Both may already be included in the package. Clarify renewal prices, email mailboxes and who to contact when something goes wrong.

As a guideline, [WeDoDesign](https://wedodesign.at/blog/website-erstellen-kosten) lists 10 to 15 euros annually for a domain, 10 to 30 euros per month for hosting and 30 to 100 euros per month for maintenance. The figures were checked on 18 October 2026. They come from one provider and do not replace a quote. Do not add an included hosting package to the monthly fee again.

For discounted introductory plans, check the price after the first term too. Other items can include business email, form delivery, paid extensions or image licences. Record which are needed, who pays for them and whether their use depends on the support contract.

Maintenance and content changes are separate tasks. Updates, security checks and backups do not automatically include new text or project images. A backup also needs a tested way to restore it. Read more in the guide to [website maintenance](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/website-maintenance/).

For “changes included”, specific examples help: a new photo, changed opening hours or an additional service page. This makes time or scope limits understandable.

### Is search engine optimisation included?

SEO basics can be part of creation, such as page structure, page titles and descriptions of services and service area for local searches. Ongoing SEO management with search analysis and improvements is a separate scope. WeDoDesign lists 300 to 1,000 euros per month as a provider’s guideline for this. The scope needed depends on competition, website condition and agreed tasks. For Google Ads, ad budget and management are added.

Have the tasks named. “SEO included” alone explains neither the later work nor its costs.

An indexing request or SEO package does not buy a place in organic search. [Google explains that a top ranking cannot be guaranteed](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/do-i-need-seo). Agree on verifiable work and access to reporting for your business instead of paying for a ranking promise.

## How to compare a project price with a website subscription

Calculate both proposals over the same period, for example 12 and 36 months from launch. For longer minimum terms, also record the entire financial commitment. A deposit is part of the project price and is not added again.

**Total cost = one-off creation and setup + monthly fees within the comparison period + annual fees due + agreed extras and switching costs.** Count included items only once. If rates change, calculate each pricing period separately.

This fictional example uses freely chosen amounts on the same price basis. It is not a BrandHoop quote and covers twelve months from publication:

Cost item Calculation for the first year
Creation with agreed text and setup 3,000 euros one-off
Hosting and domain 12 × 20 euros = 240 euros
Maintenance 12 × 50 euros = 600 euros
Total 3,840 euros

With unchanged conditions, the cost from the second year would be 840 euros annually. New pages, photos, ads and additional licences are not included in this example. Count services already covered in the package only once.

Over 36 months, the example totals 3,000 + 36 × 70 = **5,520 euros**. Twelve unchanged monthly payments of 99 euros total **1,188 euros**, and 36 payments total **3,564 euros**. The VAT basis of the published monthly rate still needs clarification. This multiplication does not include unresolved extras or buyout prices.

This does not make it a better offer: pages, text, management and handover would need the same scope. Also check when payments start, how long you are committed and whether the website can later run outside the subscription. A one-off price does not automatically make all files or licences transferable either.

## What do you keep on cancellation or a change of provider?

Agree on handover before commissioning. A contract that can be cancelled monthly does not tell you whether the finished website remains available afterwards. Ask to see what you or a new provider can actually reuse:

- **Domain:** Who is the registered holder, and how does your business get access to management or transfer?

- **Website and content:** Do you receive text, images and a usable export or the agreed files? Which parts can run on another system?

- **Usage rights and licences:** Can you keep using the content and design and have them edited? Which fonts, images or extensions will then need a separate licence?

- **Accounts and data:** Which administrative and reporting accounts remain with the business, and how is the data you need handed over?

- **Work and timing:** What extra charges apply to export, migration or an agreed buyout, and how long will the website and email stay available?

The [Austrian Economic Chamber recommends agreeing on usage scope, duration and transferability in the contract](https://www.wko.at/wettbewerbsrecht/urheberrecht-und-vertraege). Payment and technical handover do not replace that agreement. If page addresses change during the move, budget for the appropriate redirects too; the [website relaunch guide](https://brandhoop.at/en/ratgeber/website-relaunch-seo-checklist/) explains the checks.

## These questions belong in your website proposal

- Which pages, content and functions will be fully implemented?

- Who writes the text, prepares images and clarifies the necessary permissions?

- Who checks the mobile display and actual receipt of a form enquiry before and after launch?

- Which costs are one-off, which are ongoing, and how are additional wishes approved?

- Which revisions, dates and feedback are planned?

- Who manages the website afterwards, and what do you receive on cancellation or a change of provider?

For a fixed price, the scope must be clearly described. With hourly billing, you need an effort estimate and an agreed limit for additional work. Also clarify who supplies necessary legal texts and checks technical data-protection requirements.

You can send the same short brief to get comparable proposals:

Please describe the agreed pages, text, images and contact functions in your proposal. State the one-off price, all ongoing fees with their tax basis, contract term and notice period, and the costs over 12 and 36 months. Record what we supply, which checks you carry out and which content, rights and accounts we receive if we switch providers.

For a conversation with BrandHoop, your existing website and a short description of the desired services are enough. We clarify the scope of [website creation or improvements](https://brandhoop.at/en/leistungen/website-erstellung/) with you. For new websites, the first draft is ready within 24 hours once the scope is agreed and the deposit is in place; the SEO start with Search Console, preparation for indexing, page titles and descriptions is included at no extra charge.

## Conclusion

Ask providers to quote for the same page plan, text, images and contact method, then calculate costs over 12 and 36 months. Decide once your own work, ongoing support and handover to another provider are also clear.

## Frequently asked questions

Are homepage costs different from website costs?

In conversation, homepage often means the whole website, but technically it means only the main entry page. Clarify whether the offer is for a one-page website or a website with separate pages. The label alone does not determine the price.

Does my existing website need to be rebuilt?

Not necessarily. Have improvements and a rebuild compared against the work needed. Existing text, images or functions may still be usable. If page addresses change, redirects need to be planned.

Does a more expensive website automatically bring more customers?

No. Demand, visibility, the offer and how enquiries are handled work together. A higher creation price does not guarantee jobs. Agree on working contact methods and an evaluation of suitable enquiries.

Is a website subscription cheaper than a project price?

You can judge that only with the same scope and period. Add setup, monthly payments, annual fees and extras. Check the minimum term, price changes and cancellation: a low monthly rate does not tell you whether you can keep using or transfer the website afterwards.
